Visit to the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) -- 28 October 2025

On 28 October 2025, Year 3 students from the Department of Law and Business at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, of the course LAW314 Commercial Dispute Resolution, visited the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). The outing offered a valuable opportunity to bridge classroom learning with real-world ADR practice in Hong Kong.

During the visit, students learned from HKIAC Counsel Mr. Byron Perez and Case Manager Mr. Sam Wei, who delivered an insightful session on key alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms—particularly arbitration and mediation—and discussed the important role that HKIAC plays in advancing ADR practices in Hong Kong and across the region. In the lively Q&A session, students asked thoughtful and engaging questions on topics such as interim measures, the use of AI tools in dispute resolution, and mediation settlement agreements. They received exceptionally detailed and enlightening responses from the HKIAC experts, which helped them deepen their understanding of how theoretical concepts are applied in real ADR practice.

Through this visit, students gained meaningful insights into how HKIAC has been instrumental in promoting and developing Hong Kong’s position as a leading centre for international dispute resolution. As one of the top three most-preferred arbitral institutions in the world, HKIAC continues to uphold its reputation for excellence, professionalism, and innovation, supported by its diverse and multinational team of experts.

The Department sincerely thanks the HKIAC team for their warm hospitality and for providing our students with such a rich and inspiring learning experience.
