Twenty Third Annual Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2026

From 15 to 22 March 2026, a team of eight students from the Department of Law and Business participated in the 23rd Annual Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The participating students were Fatehkaran Singh Dhillon, Angke Chen, Qiao Wang, Cheng Gong, Jingwei Zhang, Kin Hei Nuriel Yip, Ho Yiu Tong, and Mingxuan Zhang. The team undertook intensive preparation over a period of more than six months, engaging in legal research, drafting written memoranda, practising oral advocacy, and developing effective teamwork.

HSBC/HKU Case Competition 2026

The Department of Law and Business is pleased to share that a student from our programme, Aurora LIU Xiaoyi (Year 2, Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Law and Business), was part of a team representing Hong Kong Shue Yan University at the HSBC/HKU Case Competition 2026, held at the headquarters of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited on 7 March 2026. The team, also comprising Sam WEE Yat Sing (Year 4, Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours)) and Elaine LIU Xiaoyi (Year 2, Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours)), demonstrated strong analytical ability, innovative thinking, and effective teamwork under the guidance of Dr. Brian Wong.

Youth Rule of Law Development Summit

Four of our students formed a team to participate in the Youth Rule of Law Development Summit (“青年法治建設高峰會”) 2025-26. The Summit includes workshops on Hong Kong’s constitutional order and the National Security Law, as well as a visit to the Department of Justice. The team also wrote an essay on reconciling cross‑border legal issues under the Chinese Constitution and the Basic Law. They presented their paper on 14 February 2026. Through the Summit, students have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the relationship among the Chinese Constitution, the Hong Kong Basic Law, the National Security Law, and the rule of law.

Award Ceremony 2025

On 1 February 2026, the Department of Law and Business organized the Award Ceremony 2025. The ceremony recognized the best-performing students in law related subjects for the academic year 2024–2025.

HKSYU Student Team Participates in ICC-HK International Commercial Mediation Competition 2025

A student team from the Department of Law and Business of Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) participated in the ICC-HK International Commercial Mediation Competition 2025, held from 24 to 27 November 2025.

The Competition was organised by the International Chamber of Commerce – Hong Kong and the Department of Justice of Hong Kong, with the support of the School of Law at the City University of Hong Kong. This year’s event brought together more than 40 university teams, providing students with a valuable platform to develop their mediation, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills in the context of international commercial disputes.

Fourteen Outstanding Law and Business Students Recognised on the President’s List 2024–2025

The President’s List Ceremony for the Academic Year 2024–2025 was held on 7 November 2025 (Friday) at 4:30 pm in RLG208, Jockey Club Multimedia Production Centre, Research Complex.

The ceremony recognised outstanding academic achievement among undergraduate students across the University. Prof. Leung Hing-fung, Head of the Department of Law and Business, attended the ceremony and presented certificates to the awardees.

Corporate Governance Paper Competition and Presentation Awards 2025

On September 6, 2025, the student team -- comprising Dhillon Fatehkaran Singh, Wong Nga Yin and Lin Ruoqi -- earned notable recognition by securing second runner-up in paper writing and first runner-up in paper presentation at the Corporate Governance Paper Competition and Presentation Awards 2025, organized by the Hong Kong Chatered Governance Institute (HKCGI).

In March-April 2025, a team of 8 students from the Department of Law and Business took part in the 22nd Annual Willem C.Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot. After six months of intensive preparation -- dedicated to legal research, drafting memoranda, honing advocacy skills, and strengthening teamwork. Through this experience, the students gained an in-depth understanding of the CISG (United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods) and developed invaluable advocacy skills, setting a strong foundation for their future careers in law and arbitration.

On 29 November 2024, the Department of Law and Business organized a prize award ceremony to recognize students' achievements in the academic year 2023-24.

The Award Ceremony was held on 2 Dec 2022 in recognizing academic achievements of students. We are thankful for the long-lasting support from Mr Richard Khaw SC in his generous donation to the Chui Wen Mei Memorial Prize to the Best Student of the graduating cohort. Our deepest gratitude also goes to Mr Stephen Hung for his donation to the prizes. The inspiring words of wisdom from Professor Huen Wong and Mr Stephen Hung given in the ceremony are very much treasured by our students and graduates.

Hong Kong Schools Mooting and Mock Trial Competition 2022-23 cum Prize-giving Ceremony

The Hong Kong Schools Mooting and Mock Trial Competition was completed successfully again this year. With over 50 secondary schools participated in the Mooting and Mock Trial Competition and the Interschool Mediation Tournament, a ceremonial prize presentation event was held in June to congratulate all winners of their efforts and achivements.

Hong Kong Secondary Business Proposal Competition 2022 (第二屆全港中學生商業計劃書比賽2022)

It is the second year Hong Kong Shue Yan University has organized the Hong Kong secondary school Business Proposal Competition 2022 (第二屆全港中學生商業計劃書比賽2022) supported by Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council Youth Chapter as co-organiser.

On 17th September, representatives from 53 competing teams gather at Shue Yan to attend a workshop on topics relating to design thinking, economic outlook, legal consideration and pricing strategy. Dr. Samuel Law from the Department of Law and Business offers a talk on the topic “Legal considerations of developing new products”. He also gives advice to the teams.
