Bridging Theory and Practice: Guest Lecture on Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments and Arbitral Awards

The Department of Law and Business hosted a guest lecture on 22 April 2026 on the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards. The session was delivered by Mr. Alan Li, Senior Partner at Jincheng Tongda & Neal Law Firm, Shenzhen Office, and Ms. Celine Cen, Associate at the same firm. It provided students with valuable insights into cross-border dispute resolution and the legal frameworks governing the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards, particularly within the context of China.

During the lecture, the speakers outlined the key procedures involved in the recognition and enforcement process, including case filing, court review, and enforcement stages. They also examined important legal principles such as reciprocity and jurisdiction, as well as the circumstances under which recognition may be denied. Through practical case examples, they demonstrated how courts assess foreign judgments and arbitral awards, enabling students to better understand both the legal framework and its application in practice.

The session enhanced students’ understanding of private international law and equipped them with practical knowledge relevant to their future legal and business careers. It concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, during which students and department staff engaged actively with the speakers and explored practical issues in cross-border legal practice.
