Law and Business Students Show Encouraging Progress at the 23rd Annual Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2026

From 15 to 22 March 2026, a team of eight students from the Department of Law and Business participated in the 23rd Annual Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The participating students were Fatehkaran Singh Dhillon, Angke Chen, Qiao Wang, Cheng Gong, Jingwei Zhang, Kin Hei Nuriel Yip, Ho Yiu Tong, and Mingxuan Zhang.

The team undertook intensive preparation over a period of more than six months, engaging in legal research, drafting written memoranda, practising oral advocacy, and developing effective teamwork. Through this process, students gained an in-depth understanding of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and further strengthened their mooting and advocacy skills.

Prior to the competition, the team received guidance and training from the Department’s academic staff. Professor H.F. Leung, Dr. Nancy Xiao, and Dr. Yi Tang supervised the students during several mock arbitration sessions and rehearsal trainings. These sessions provided students with valuable practical experience and helped them refine their legal reasoning and advocacy techniques.

The team’s performance this year shows encouraging progress. In particular, Fatehkaran Singh Dhillon and Angke Chen both achieved an oralist place. Notably, Fatehkaran Singh Dhillon was ranked 171st out of 522 oralists, reflecting a strong individual achievement.

The Department congratulates all participating students on their dedication and accomplishments in this international competition!
