After completing my studies at SYU, I began my career in the company secretarial field and am now working as a company secretarial assistant at a CPA firm. While I was struggling to choose between continuing my studies and entering the workforce, I came across a job advertisement from HKCGI. It reminded me of my participation in the HKCGI Paper and Presentation Competition, during which our teachers from the Department of Law and Business provided tremendous support and guidance. That experience sparked my lasting interest in corporate governance and risk management.
During my undergraduate studies, I took courses in areas such as risk and compliance, corporate secretarialship, and company law. These subjects laid a strong foundation and helped me identify my career direction. Drawing on these experiences, I continued my job search across various platforms and eventually received an offer as a company secretarial assistant from a CPA firm that mainly provides company secretarial and accounting services.
That said, there is a clear difference between studying and working. In a company secretary’s role, multitasking and time management are crucial. My daily work involves preparing and submitting annual returns for clients’ companies, arranging couriers, and coordinating with service providers to ensure smooth filing with the Companies Registry. At first, I found time management challenging, but with practice and advice from senior colleagues, I gradually learned to prioritise tasks and work more efficiently.
Lastly, stepping out of your comfort zone is key. During my undergraduate years, I used to imagine that full-time work would be difficult and stressful. However, you never truly know until you try. Don’t be afraid to ask questions—the more you ask, the more you learn. I hope everyone has a bright future ahead and wish you all the best in your studies and careers!
